Denver Liposuction

Everybody knows that fat deposits have a mind of their own. Despite exercise and adequate diets, fat stays there; usually, in unwanted areas. Liposuction, an Aspen Laser Spa service, facilitates the sculpting of the body you'd like to have.

Healthy men and women are good candidates for the liposuction treatment. You must have no more than 25 to 30 extra pounds beyond your ideal weight.

How Denver Liposuction Works

A surgeon removes excess fat deposited between the dermis (the deepest skin layer) and the muscles. As a result, patients get a more proportionate figure; that's why we call liposuction a "body sculpturing" procedure. Technically, we refer to it as lipoplasty.

Although there's a significant weight reduction after a lipoplasty, the technique is not meant to be an obesity treatment.  The same goes for cellulite reduction.

Basically, our liposuction surgery technique begins with the surgeon delineating the problematic areas with a marker, like those used for whiteboards.  She asks you to stand up and makes these marks-that resemble a topographical map- because those areas will become distorted later as you lie down.

The doctor makes minor incisions for the injection of an anesthetic fluid around the area being treated. These are 1.5 mm holes (about half the width of a USB cable); so small, that in about three to four months hardly will people notice you had lipoplasty.

The surgeon injects a saline solution with lidocaine around the treated area. This solution, besides numbing the region, helps to separate the fatty tissue from skin and muscles. Also, the numbing medicine includes epinephrine to constrict blood vessels and reduce bleeding.

By now, the most uncomfortable part is over!

When the tumescent effect has been achieved, the surgeon introduces a cannula, a very thin tube through a small incision. With sudden back and forward moves, she ruptures fat tissue.

Next, the doctor attaches a vacuum to the cannula and begins the suction stage. During this phase, the vacuum collects about 1 to 4 liters of fat in a container.

Finally, the surgeon makes some stitches to close the incisions where needed; nevertheless, most of these cuts are so small that no stitches are necessary.

Post-Surgical Care

Sometimes, after some liposuction surgeries we suggest our patients wear compression garments for a month and a half after surgery. Abdominal girdles, elastic bands and binders have tight fabrics that hold tissues together and reduce swelling as fluids can't build up easily under a compressed area. Thus, these post-surgical garments help your body (specially the skin) achieve the desired shape while still healing. However, the lymphatic drainage system works best without compression and subcutaneous fluid (mostly anesthetic infiltration and injured tissues) drains more rapidly when left alone.

You will recover much earlier, though!

Typically, our patients are back to work the same week and have fully recovered after a fortnight; but you will see the desired figured in the mirror about 90 days after the operation.

How Fat Cells in Your Body Work

Your body uses adipose tissue to store excess energy. Most of the fat is underneath the skin, between the dermis and the muscles.

While women store fat in their hips, waist, buttocks and breasts, men carry it in the abdomen and the chest. That's why women have a tendency to appear pear-shaped.

Good news

All in all, fat cells are just elastic storage compartments. They grow (they become, uh...fatter) like a balloon to accommodate more substance. You probably heard the name of that "substance": triglycerides.

When you eat more food (energy) than your body actually needs, the body transforms the energy into fat molecules, because fat is easier to store.  Fat cells must exist for the storing process to take place.

The good news is that fat cells are created from the time a baby's in the womb and until puberty only. Adults cannot regenerate fat cells; in other words, the number of fat cells has been predetermined at the time of birth.  Therefore, once fat tissue has been removed from a certain area during a typical liposuction treatment, patients will never accumulate fat in the same place.

We aren't saying you won't gain weight, though. You will, if you don't follow a healthy diet; but the body will store the excess energy in other fat cells; meaning, other areas.
