Laser Hair Removal Q&A
Almost everyone has unwanted hair somewhere on their body.  Unfortunately, traditional hair removal routines can be tedious, painful and expensive over time.  Shaving may last a day, waxing a couple of weeks, but none of them last forever – and therein lies the true beauty of laser hair removal.

How does it work?
To eliminate hair the laser emits gentle pulses of energy that pass through the skin to the hair follicle.  This energy is then absorbed into the hair follicle to destroy it so that hair can never grow there again.

Am I a viable candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal can be applied to all areas of the body and on all types of skin (even tanned or dark skin).

Does it hurt?
The treatment causes only minimal discomfort.  Patients often say it feels similar to the snap of a rubber band.  Slight redness or localized swelling can occasionally occur, but this usually subsides within the first 24 hours after treatment.

How many treatments are required?
Typically patients will see results in 5 -6 treatments, though this number will vary based upon skin tone, hair color and several other factors.  Your Medical Aesthetician will talk to you about variables that may affect your individual results.

Fractional Resurfacing Q&A

How does fractional resurfacing work?
The fractional laser gently treats the area together with enhancing micro-pulses of light to help stimulate collagen production, making skin appear more supple and full, while helping to treat wrinkles.  The Affirm also treats discoloration, a common condition associated with aging skin that results in age and sun spots.

Can Fractional Resurfacing treat wrinkles, or any age-related skin condition?
The fractional laser treatment is specifically designed to diminish the effects of time on the skin such as wrinkles, photo-aging, and other conditions.

How do I know if I am a candidate?

What about side effects?
The typical side effects from treatment are minimal.  Patients usually report redness, puffiness, or mild swelling of the treatment area that can last hours to a few days.  Transient tanning of the skin may result and should resolve within 2-3 weeks.

How many sessions will I need?
Wrinkles and pigmented lesions typically require 4-6 treatments.

When will I see results?
Results vary with each case.  With some conditions one treatment may be sufficient, while others might require 2-6 treatments before results are noticeable.

Laser Vein Therapy Q & A
Spider veins on the face and legs bother millions of people.  Spider veins (or telangiectasias) are red, bluish or purple veins that can result from sun exposure, use of oral contraception, hormone therapy, the aging process, or heredity.
Advanced laser technology offers an effective treatment for facial and spider veins.

How does a laser help?
With a beam of light, the laser can deliver a prescribed dose of energy to the spider veins.  The laser “selectively” coagulated the problem veins while sparing surrounding areas.  After treatment, the vessels will slowly and naturally disappear.

Results are seen within 4 to 8 weeks.  Typically, one to two treatments are recommended.

Can we be sure that this will work on my veins?
This is something that must be determined with each patient individually, but the majority of patients will benefit from this treatment.

Is this treatment difficult?
No.  This non-invasive treatment process takes between 15 minutes to about 30 minutes, depending on your situation.  After treatment, there is a 24 hour period in which we recommend that you avoid physical activity, after that you can resume all of your normal activities.

Is this painful?
There is some minor discomfort associated with this laser treatment.  Most patients describe the sensation as a series of rubber band snaps to the skin.  We can often reduce or eliminate this by cooling the treated area with an air-cooling device.
